My best guesses:
It may be that your window isn't maximized, or that your font is too
large. Try what Caryn suggested and also try going into Global Menu
and down to fonts. If you are not a print reader, you can make it as
small as you like. I have mine set to 8.
It is my understanding that we cannot go from 10.6 back to an earlier
version to edit or emboss files that were created in 10.6.
