  John:

Do you have another printer - a print printer - which is directed to LPT1?
The other day I installed Duxbury for a friend who also has a Braille Blazer
and when we tried to emboss on LPT1 nothing happened since he was using a
deskjet or Cannon printer on the same port. To get the embosser to work I
added a generic/text only to the printers and faxes in the appropriate folder
in the control panel and then chose the generic/text only item in the global
embosser set up menu. The Braille Blazer worked well after that.

Even when the Blazer was disconnected and the other printer was connected the
system worked.

    John

Is the power cord plugged securely into the machine?

Is the power plug plugged fully into the wall socket . not half out or
making nasty buzzing sounds?

If you are using a plug box . has it a cut out button (overload/short) . if
so, re-set it (usually by pushing it in). If it blows again get an someone to
check it . you have a serious problem somewhere.

Is the Blazer actually turned on at its power switch?

Don't laugh . I spent 30 years in bands trying to trouble shoot why
electronics wouldn't work! After an hour or so of sifting through a spaghetti
maze of wiring you learn that the first thing to check is the power!!

A long shot but I hope this helps.

    Alan

    John,

My daughter's machine is also a Blazer you can email me directly off the
list or I could copy my Blazer manual and email it to you, but I would need
your direct email since I think the user list won't allow attachments.

There are a few other questions I have

    1. Is the blazer making any noise at all? Is it talking to you? If it is
brailing gibberish and talking then it is a setting you need to adjust.

    2. If it is not doing anything at all? If so, did you go through the set up
process when Duxbury says to turn off the authorization on 10.5 release 1
before adding 10.5 release 2? If you didn't follow that step then you should be
still able to open the old program and your blazer should run, there is a
conflict in the two programs.

    3. Another item I would ask you is if you change your computer hook up in
any way? Did you go from a parallel to a serial port? Make sure your settings
in the blazer and in the Duxbury program are the same.

If you would like me to copy and email my owner's manual I can. My
daughter' blazer is at least ten years old so we've had our share of program
changes, computer changes etc. If I copy it to an email it would be an Adobe
file or PDF and if you have Adobe Acrobat 6.0 or better the file should read
out loud to you.

Technology is the best of good and evil, I even had to give her Christmas
present from her grandmother of a new computer to her siblings. I ended up
having to do a major Windows update on her old machine because the new
computers are not coming out with Parallel ports on all machines. And some of
the newer computers like Dell's skinny computer, the hardware manufacturer's
haven't caught up with the computer people and there are no new parallel ports
to add to the new computer's internally, they have to be external and USB,
which the Blazer is picky about.

I can try to help but we may do better off list.

Is it brailing anything? If not working at all, start Duxbury, at the top
where you find "file" "edit" go a couple more tabs and you will find settings
and under that tab is embosser set up. Find your embosser on the list and save
settings.

If your Brailler is brailing miscellaneous information the embosser bar
may need to be flipped over. This occurs on the Braille Blazer, there is a
little handle on the embosser bar that my daughter use to occasionally flip and
the embosser bar then is in graphing mode.

      Hopefully this helps.
