Hi Leslie,
I am in the process of taking the self-paced class (completing lesson 5 out of 12 lessons). I don't know what the regular class is like but I chose the freedom the setting my own time for each lesson. As I remember it is a total of 120 days aloted for the entire class. It is $100 but well worth the money to me. If you figure it out, that is just over $8 a lesson.
I have learned so much about the DBT software. The class is based on 10.5 but I'm sure you could do it on 10.6. I have both because when I upgraded to 10.6, the 10.5 remained. For the visually impaired students they have JAWS installed. I don't know how they will handle graphics because I haven't got to that lesson yet. I am sure they have it figured out because they have both blind and sighted students.
We submit the assignments by email. The lessons are challenging especially after the first few.
To get there you go to www.carrolltech.org, then click on Classes, then scroll down to Using the Duxbury Braille Translator self paced. I did not take the computer knowledge pretest, but I had to take the Duxbury pretest. (Don't worry, you are expected to fail it.)
I took the class because I was not familiar with the DBT program or any other braille transcription software program for that matter. I am learning much more than I ever could just poking around the help menu.
I hope this information helps.
Sandra

Hello all. I'm thinking about taking that online class on Duxbury from
the Carroll Center. I understand some of you folks have either taken it
or are in the process of completing it. Why would it be beneficial to
take this class? Is the class worthwile? Were you satisfied with what
you learned? How do you sign up for it and how much does it cost?
Would you recommend the self-paced version or the timed version and why?
How do you submit your assignments, especially braille graphics? How is
the tactile graphics part adapted for totally blind students? Where can
I go to get more information on the class? I look forward to hearing
your thoughts.
