I remember reading about a company who had a six-key keyboard but I don't know what type of plug it used. I also heard this particular keyboard doesn't work well. I agree that a six-key keyboard is a good idea. (I suppose a braille style keyboard would be more accurate since the keyboard will need six keys for the dots, plus the space bar and, if people want to input 8-dot braille, the keyboard would need two more keys for dots 7 and 8. BTW, if you are using WindowEyes and you have your BN connected to your PC as a braille display, you can input braille using the BN's keyboard. Don't know if JAWS allows that, though. I know it couldn't happen for 10.6, but : here goes. : : I have discovered that my keyboard is not able to produce six-key entry. : I've done some Googling around and read that new keyboards are not designed : to support this feature, and that it is reliant on old IBM keyboard : standards. Some websites suggest ways of testing keyboards for this : functionality, and suggest shoppping second-hand, etc. I read that over : half of keyboards do not support six-key entry. : : But DBT is a program for modern braille production. I know the thinking for : six-key entry is good and it's valuable, but it's also dependent on old : keyboards and the hopes that companies might keep old technology in : production, etc. : : So, why doesn't Duxbury design a simple USB keypad for braille entry? Six : keys, the spacebar, maybe a backspace key? Nothing fancy. No display, just : the keys for inputting the braille. : : Jean : : : * * * : * This message is via list duxuser at freelists.org. : * To unsubscribe, send a blank message with : * unsubscribe : * as the subject to <duxuser-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx>.
