Hi Zoe, I lied! I should have my wrist slapped for not checking my information before sending it out to the whole list. [Wry Grin] The keyboard is not a Dell. It is a Belkin F8E-206 USB. It's nice and small, no extra buttons above the function keys, and the touch is just about perfect. Can you tell I sort of like this keyboard? [LOL] Happy keyboard hunting, Sarah -----Original Message----- From: duxuser-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:duxuser-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx]On Behalf Of Zoe Honor Sent: Friday, September 22, 2006 12:45 PM To: duxuser@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [duxuser] Re: six-key entry Hi Sarah, Could you tell us the serial # on the bottom of your keyboard if possible, so that when I call Dell, I can ask for that model? I replaced it with a new Dell keyboard which is lovely and does six-key entry just fine. So there are still keyboards being manufactured with the ability to do six-key entry, and Dell may be a good place to start. -----Original Message----- From: duxuser-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:duxuser-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx]On Behalf Of Jean Menzies Sent: Sunday, September 17, 2006 5:11 PM To: DBT list Subject: [duxuser] six-key entry I have a suggestion for Duxbury. I know it couldn't happen for 10.6, but here goes. I have discovered that my keyboard is not able to produce six-key entry. I've done some Googling around and read that new keyboards are not designed to support this feature, and that it is reliant on old IBM keyboard standards. Some websites suggest ways of testing keyboards for this functionality, and suggest shoppping second-hand, etc. I read that over half of keyboards do not support six-key entry. But DBT is a program for modern braille production. I know the thinking for six-key entry is good and it's valuable, but it's also dependent on old keyboards and the hopes that companies might keep old technology in production, etc. So, why doesn't Duxbury design a simple USB keypad for braille entry? Six keys, the spacebar, maybe a backspace key? Nothing fancy. No display, just the keys for inputting the braille.
