I re-read your message after reading all the replies.

First of all, my experience with DBT 10.2 and 10.3 indicates that when you
have ASCII with long lines, DBT may truncate lines longer than 256
characters when the text is imported as ASCII or Windows text.  I suggest
you load the text into WP or Word, and save in that word processor's
format.  This preserves tabs, page breaks and paragraph breaks, accented
characters and not much else.  While in the word processor you will find
out what character set was used to encode the accented letters (code page
1252 or code page 437).  

After DBT translates the word processor file, you could save it as a .bru,
or set up an embosser to the line length of your braille display.
