If you don't have kurzweil and have open book it will do the same thing.
Just act as if you are going to print the file with control+p and choose
the Freedom printer. It takes a while but your patience will pay off.

Hello George and Hope:

     I haven't tried this with BMP or other graphic file formats, but if
you 
have Kurzweil software try printing to the KESI virtual printer. This 
virtual printer is used by K1000 and K3000 to convert PDF files. I have
used 
this trick to get the text out of PowerPoint slides.
