Douglas,
I'm very suspicious of that alleged update from Adobe. I've never seen an
update from Adobe that tried to update other programs. You may have to
reinstall whatever you used to originally put Word on your system. You
might also want to reinstall the applications that you updated. While
you're at it, you might want to have someone knowledgeable check your system
for malware and other problems.
