Hi Marc
I am glad to guide you on how to deal with your computer. There are many
ways to proceed and what works for me may not be the same for you and vice
versa. I dont know what your vision is like or whether you wish to go down
the visual or the screen reader route. Anyway, here are some of my comments
to your last email.
1. Do not use a windows 7 computer on the internet. You can upgrade for
free to windows 10. Get someone to help you do that now to your pc.
Otherwise use it only for typing if that is not possible. Wondows 7 is too
vulnerable to hackers and the recent HSE virus attack is an example.
2. Many shops like Curry sell computers with Microsoft Office at a discount
of about â¬150.
3. You can download Microsoft Office free and use it online with your
documents saved online in the Microsoft One Drive. It has most of the
functions of Word.
4. You can download Libre Office which is very similar to Microsoft Office.
It is totally free and has no annoying aids. It is slightly different to
Microsoft but after a bit of experience you can find where all the
equivalent functions and tools are.
5. NCBI sells second hand laptips with a screen reader installed. You can
explore that option if you wish. I think it costs â¬50 but I may be wrong.
6. I use a 23 inch touch screen all in one pc. I can if I wish, magnify the
screen using my two fingers or tap on a link instead of using the mouse. I
set the screen to dark mode theme that is white texts against a black
background and high contrast is turned on. I bought a standard keyboard
with it. I have enough central vision at the moment for me to use
the computer without too much frustration and stress.
Finally get rid of windows 7 asap and get windows 10 upgrade for free.
Regards
John

Thank you, John. Kind of you to help. What Iâve since learned is my PC
laptop with W11 and use itâs Magnified to get the computer to read out Word
text, or I get W11 installed on my current laptop. I think Iâll try the
latter first because i already have Word on my computer and Iâd have to
buy/rent it on a new laptop.
Thanks again.the

Dear Marc
I am assuming that you are using a windows 10 PC.
1. Depending on your sight, consider using high contrast and or adjust
wordscreen brightness.
2. Can you control the light around you?
3. The use of the magnifier app will make everything on the top of MS
sizebigger and more accessible. You can google how to set that up.
Hope these are useful.

Just in case I have been too hasty in my last reply:
Would you try increasing the font size using control + right arrow?
That shortcut is supposed to increase the font size by 1 point. If it
works, then keep repeating the keystroke until a sufficiently large
