According to tqh (comment 37 of #8454), atheros and realtek are believed
to be OK. You still might want to try ping and wget to see if you're
getting acceptable network performance generally. You might also want to
try grabbing the appropriate driver binary from the nightly for r43722
which was just before the latest FreeBSD driver update to see if that
helps at all.
