ey up kim,

no worries, more than happy to help out.

you can do either process as installing VMWare fusion is just that, it doesn't 
force you to install an OS on first launch, it asks if you want to do any 
migrations, new machine sessions, etc.

you can download windows and then mount it using fusion to install. you can 
perform an unattended install by setting up a default install instance or you 
can do a tailored installation like I prefer to do which means working directly 
with the windows installer. either way you should be fine. one note to be wary 
of is RAM and space. if your macbook air has anything less than 128gb solid 
state storage and 4GB ram, you're pushing it a little because Windows 7 doesn't 
really perform that well with anything less than 2gb ram as a config and about 
40gb volume size as a dedicated virtual drive (vmdk). You can run 32 bit and 64 
bit versions of windows 7 in fusion, so it depends on what you're going to run, 
etc.
