If you're uploading from CD and assuming it's not compressing (I don't know the 
status of compression whether it's done on the fly or not) you're sending about 
10 megabytes of data for every minute of stereo audio sampled at 44.1KHZ.  This 
means an average CD with music is about 655 megabytes.  If you only have 256K 
up, this will take a while.
        This was one of th ereasons I went with Verizon FIOS, that and the 
employee discount.:)  But my down channel is 1 gigabit and up channel is 100 
megabits so uploading files is quite quick.
        Apple themselves might be rate limiting you also, you might try 
reconnecting.  In general though it sounds like you're heading in the right 
direction.  Getting off the wireless was the buggy.
