The only thing I can think of is my hands are usually cold, so I’m wondering if
that could be affecting my fingerprint.

I always use my index finger. My partner has set up multiple fingers. When
the finger print sensor no longer works, have you tried wiping it down to
make sure it is clean? I have no idea if that is an issue, but I would
expect the finger print to continue to work.
One time on an Android device, I did some sanding in order to remove stain.
My finger print did not work for four days. Perhaps my finger pad was dried
out? I don't know.

Ok. Is it a big deal if someone holds my finger to gently guide it in the
right position? I never can get a good fingerprint no matter what I did.
Could be because I use all my fingers to type and read braille with my index
fingers.

Yes, but you turn it in different directions and angles.

Does my thumb have to be flat against the sensor? This is the reaso I’ve
avoided using my thumbs for Touch ID and instead use my index finger. If I
can get away with usin the side of mythumb, I can maybe do that.
