Yeah the problem is I can’t bend my thumb enough to e it on the sensor in such
a way that it will register. The person at the Appe Store iuggested trying the
midde finger to see if that makes a difference since my fingerprint on my index
finger ay be worndown.

register at all with the sensor which is why the Apple documentation
recommends using your thumbs.

When the finger print sensor no longer works, have you tried wiping it
down to make sure it is clean? I have no idea if that is an issue, but I
would expect the finger print to continue to work.
One time on an Android device, I did some sanding in order to remove
stain. My finger print did not work for four days. Perhaps my finger
pad was dried out? I don't know.
