Hi,
While I only dream of building a python, I do
own a few bikes with large, sixty or sixty two
chainrings. Ive set up front derailers of
different brands on them. Ive found that rather
old shimano doubles type front changers work with
out mods. We arent talking ebay here, prolly the
next junk bike you pick up from the side of the
road will have one. If you want to know the model
name of the one that I have in service, write and
I will take a look at the bike, but its very very
common. If youre trying to shift a triple ring,
you will no doubt have to modify a triple ring
derailer, especially so, if youre trying to use a
very very wide range set of rings. I do have a
thirty tooth, forty two, fifty eight tooth set on
a burley limbo, with the original sora derailer
and it shifts ok, without mods to the shape of
the deraier itself. It takes very judicious care
to set it up, height wise, then you have to break
off the bottom horizontal piece, and find an old
derailer and cut the bottom inch or so off its
inside vertical piece, drill a hole in it, and
attach it to the bottom vertical of the original
derailer, once thats done, the best thing is to
find a way to attach it to the outside vertical
of the original derailer, although, mine is broke
off past the horizontal at the outside, and it
still works fine except if you throw the chain
past fifty eight tooth, the chain can actually
fall to the ground with that broke off. Ive seen
others recommend that the pieces be brazed
together and the pictures of that look nice. I
believe that the sixty tooth wont be more
difficult than the fifty eight tooth chainring to
make the sora work. I also have a suntour pro
triple, set up to run , a thirty four, fifty two,
sixty two setup, and it took a a little bending
to the cage to make it work but the bottom
horizontal seemed to work fine without the chain
dragging on it. I hope this helps. tom
