Honestly, just about any FD will shift that or almost any sized chainring,
double or triple. If the cage isn't long enough to accomodate the big ring
to the smallest ring without the chain hanging up on it, just cut the cage
and weld in some small extension pieces of steel. Right now on my Speed, I
converted it to a 60/40 chainring setup and all I had to do was loosen the
FD clamp and slide it up. I've put 4 sets of 60/40's on bents and used a
modded Altus E type, an Alivio and two old beat up Shimanos, and they all
worked fine. In your case, put the rings on the crank, and mount the cranks
first, then put the FD on the derailleur tube and see what kind of angle and
placement you need to do to get it to work. With regular FD's, I measured
and you could go for a 62/35 with little problem if you mount them first,
then set your front tube angle. A little judicious grinding of the top
bridge on the FD cage doesn't hurt either in extreme instances :)

The biggest issue with big rings is that it is tough to take up all the
extra chain when you go down to the small ring/cog combinations. With a
60/40 chainring set, and an 11/32 cassette, I lose the 40T - 11T gear
combination. That's no big deal because I only use the 40T on hills and
then upshift to the 60T. With a bigger main ring, and smaller granny ring,
you'd lose even more gear combos, but just so you get the hill combinations
is the important thing, IMO. :)

I had the same 110 BCD to 130BCD issue with my Vuelta 60T rings, so I made a
simple adapter out of .090" 7075 and it has over 2000km with zero problems
so far. I've also made a 70T chainring, and three sets of 62/40 oval rings,
but I'm not finished and don't have all the pictures up yet, but some iniial
pictures of the 70T are here:
http://fleettrikes.com/tth8.htm

The 60T ring and the adapter are here:

Hope this helps.

| I have a 60 tooth Vuelta chainring that I plan to use on my new trike.
| It has 135 BCD spacing, but my RPM Bulletproof 150 mm cranks are only
| 110, so I either had to make an adapter or find a solid 110 chainring to
| use as an adapter. I found a 44 tooth Tioga CD on ebay that was perfect,
| so with a five new holes and spacers I now have a 44 / 60 double.
|
| Originally I wasn't planning to have a front derailleur on the trike, it
| will have a Sachs brake hub with 3 internal gears and a 6 speed
| cassette, which I figured would be plenty. But now I have this double
| for the front it seems silly not to put a derailleur on it -- you can
| never have enough gears! ;-) So now the problem I am having is that none
| of the front deraileurs I have are able to shift it. They are obviously
| designed for much smaller chainwheels. Does anyone know of a front
| derailleur that will shift up to 60t?
