Very low BB height might cause your pedals hit the
ground when cornering. Also it is less efficient
if you prefer the sportive riding.

Very high BB seems to increase wheel flop and pedal
induced steering. Als it might be annoying having
the feet in the view.

Take 20 cm and it will be fine.


This recent comment that you put on the list provokes another question from me: When you say less efficient, do you mean less so aerodynamically, or ergonomically?

I ask because I see that I shall have to have a full-time, head-out full fairing for my python to be a realistic car-substitute, in our weather. And the shaping of the fairing will be helped considerably if the uppermost sweep of my toes on the pedals is kept relatively low. But does that mean an inherently less efficient action? Anyone else have any specialist knowledge about this?

I know there's no escaping the 'build it and see, then tweak it for improvements' approach. But longtime experience with making all sorts of things has made me a devotee also of the 'do it once, do it right' approach too. I want to see how much I can get right first time, with sufficient forethought, and so have to tweak as little as possible. I should say that, at my age, I don't expect to be particularly sporty. But a fast, light workhorse bike/trike (alternatable) will be really useful. At the moment I'm pondering how to make a really nice streamline shape for a head-out fairing +without using compound curves+, that's to say just using flat sheet material. I'm groping for something that is as aerodynamically efficient as possible, and that looks as cool as possible too. A lowish BB for the pedals would help this a lot, I think. I'm on the point now of committing to welding in a particular angle between the front end and the centre section (with 65 degree steering angle, and 20 cm negative trail already decided) So this information is now very current for me.

It's relevant to say that the fairing will be tailored as slim as possible, to fit the the bike python, and the alternate trike back end will have its wheels outside the main faring, with mudguard/farings on each back wheel, similar to the Leitra's front wheel fairings.
