How do you think it is "much better" and for what use cases?
For starters it does not include SystemD. I won't debate the pros and cons of
SystemD; in my opinion Runit does a better job and there are many benefits to
running a system that does not include this. Void is also very barebones in
that the base system only comes with what you need to get going with the
terminal. Arch is similar to this, but Arch includes Systemd. Void uses a
rolling release model unlike Debian-based distributions. Void also uses xbps,
which is superior to pacman and Aptitude -- at least it is in my opinion. I say
it is superior because it runs faster than pacman/Aptitude, and the packaging
process is much more straightforward. Xbps uses shell scripts to build
packages, which is very nice. Void also allows you to build with Muscl support,
which is arguably a better general C library than glibc. Void can be used for
pretty much anything you want it to be, whether that be a server, a GUI desktop
system or a terminal for general use. I say Void is "much better" because (1)
it does not include Systemd, (2) the packaging system is better, (3) it is
rolling release and more barebones and (4) it allows more customization in that
you can build with or without Muscl support.
By way of example, Nerves (https://nerves-project.org/) is a Linux
distribution which is based on Elixir and Erlang. It uses an Erlang
supervision tree to start and run system daemons, so it's reliable
and fail soft. Nerves images are also much smaller than Raspbian's.
That said, I wouldn't use Nerves for a general purpose installation.
