My PC install of Linux is based off of Knoppix running in Adriane
mode. Sadly, getting the most recent Knoppix to boot in Adriane by
default requires editing a config file in the ISO, which I know of no
elegant means of doing(Last time I made a Knopix disc, I mounted the
ISO, copied it's contents, edited the file in question, and then used
genisoimage to build a new iso). Knoppix also has the downside that
it's not designed for hard-drive installation, which leaves me feeling
like I'm paying for better accessiblity by the whole thing being
somewhat more buggy thant vanilla Debian(for example, I'm stuck with
Knoppix as the username for the single user on this system, and I have
to manually mount my home partition following a reboot). Wish I knew
enough about custom distros to port Adriane to vanilla debian(Knoppix
uses the Debian repositories for anything that isn't knoppix-specific,
but there are just enough compatibility issues and packages that are
part of the LiveDVD of Knoppix but can't be downloaded from either
Debian or Knoppix repositories that you can't just add the Knoppix
repository to sources.list under a clean Debian install and do sudo
apt-get install adriane, and most of the problems lie with arguably
the two most important components of Adriane(Adriane-screenreader,
which depends on the Knoppix-specific SBL screenreader, which install
just fine on Debian 32-bit but has no 64-bit version available, and
even on 32-bit installs, I have no idea how to make SBL launch instead
of speakup, and Adriane-X, which depends on Compiz(no longer in Debian
and the version in the Knoppix repositories appears to be broken).
