Oh yes, and, think should have said, it really seems to be necessary to
have either your 3.5mm earphones or speakers plugged in to whichever
audio output channel you want it to use by default, the very first time
- as in, under raspbian, etc. I would make sure that 3.5mm jack is
plugged in to analogue socket for first time boot-up, and, with the
ubuntu mate images, I made sure the earphone jack was plugged in to the
external audio adapter on first boot-up, since think that then affects
the hardware choice configuration that gets configured somewhat
automatically on first-time startup of the operating system.
You can change it later, but, haven't figured out how to do that
simply/easily/reliably thus far, so it's not really worth the trouble as
such.

adapters, the first one I tested was one just had lying around here
anyway, but, made sure when picked up second one that it was packaged as
direver-less, etc., and with ubuntu mate on the pi2, I specifically
tested that if I took a replica of the one I had got up and running on
my pi 2, and wrote it to a second SDCard, and then booted up the pi on
that image/card, with the second audio adapter plugged in, it still
worked the same.
And, both of those adapters just had two sockets on them - audio out,
and microphone in - both cheap, simple audio adapters, with no really
important branding, etc. - most likely sort of generic clones, if that
makes sense.

I did have one more question over operating systems.
Does Android’s Talkback speech work on the Raspberry Pi. I’ve heard of
people running android, and i have also heard of Chromium OS. so does
ChromeVox work on it also?
I’m kind of wanting to use the Raspberry pi for different thigs. So i may
throw one thing at it one day, and then another thing a different day.

hardware, so you would hear a couple of syllables spoken, before it
would bomb out, but, using an external USB audio adapter, it would work
alright.
Will get around to trying it out on the pi 3, but, for now, just want to
get it up and running using raspbian... - busy downloading september

but from what I remember reading in prior discussions, you need a
dedicated sound card in order to have Orca run smoothly on the Pi.
