Hooks,
I am exceptionally pleased to hear that your membership in our somewhat
suspect society has been assured in perpetuity by the assignment of this
seemingly appropriate call sign. I, for one, am expecting your world-renowned
expertise in fishing to rub off in some form or fashion on your golf game—at
least when you are playing in one of our less-famous events. And, we certainly
hoping that, on those occasions when you are not obligated to show the rich and
famous where the fish are, that you make some time after each event you attend
to share one of your many life experience stories.
In the meantime, please take a couple of weeks to review the attached set of
rules that apply to play in any Society of Golfers Against Good Golf event.
We, as a group, insist that you comply—without complaint. Oh, just in case you
don’t have the software to read the attachment, the following link will take
you to the same document now available from the Library of Congress. Link:

Subject: [sogagg] Distinct Honor and Privilege - Ahem/Amen
Dear Mr. Robbins, We regret to inform you that your application to Harvard has
been rejected, and we do not wish to discuss why nor do we wish to ever have
contact with you again. Goodbye !
Oops, sorry, wrong letter, but right Mr. Robbins.
Dear Mr. Robbins, On behalf of the esteemed Society of Golfers Against Good
Golf (SOGAGG), it is my distinct honor and privilege to announce that the
"members", after much contemplation and discussion, have awarded you your
extraordinary and appropriate SOGAGG Name.
HOOKS … Congratulations. This name for eternity will emblazon your three "soon
to be delivered" SOGAGG golf shirts which you will wear with exceptional pride
at all future SOGAGG events (not all three at once, but the one color singled
out for each event).
Ace, our "visionary leader", will no doubt, slowly (very very slowly) let you
know some of our traditions that are associated with great golfing and great
post golf celebrations.
Rules, our "keep us honest", handicap manager, will let you know how to
establish and maintain your current handicap … Ghin, Ghif, Ghost, Gory, Gneiss
.. one of the above.
HOOKS .. that name has kind of a ring to it … one can envision the launch angle
and direction of your drive at the first hole and with you as a right handed
golfer, seeing that ball explode off the tee box, 116 mph swing speed, 22
degree launch angle, 1528 spin rate and then, seeing it initially start
powerfully down the middle of the fair way and then, oh dear, then as the
closed club face begins to effect the ball flight, it begins to turn to the
left, slowly at first, then rapidly accelerating to the left, high and left,
very high and very left …. and then landing dead center in the lake bounding
the fairway (to the left).
HOOKS, the perfect name for high left ball flight and also simultaneously
perfect for fishing in that lake, or any body of water, fresh or salt. You get
it by now, I'm sure.
Welcome, welcome, welcome HOOKS to as fine a bunch of folks and mediocre
golfers as was ever assembled. You will love the ride. WOXOF
