Radnor Lake State Natural Area Nashville-Davidson Co. TN 27 April 2011 . It stopped raining in the Radnor Lake area about 7:00 this morning, so a small group of birders met on schedule to see what might be out this Wednesday. First, the PROTHONOTARY WARBLERS, which had been so noticeably absent at Radnor this spring, finally appeared. We got good looks at three of them at various points along the lake trail. Other notable warbler species include a very colorful singing CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLER, several BLACKPOLL WARBLERS feeding at lower levels and, a bit unusual for Radnor, a YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT. In total we had 13 warbler species. The SWAINSON'S THRUSHES were both calling and singing. We had a good number of both male and female ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAKS, seen at close range. The OSPREY, still present, was in his usual spot on the far shore of the lake. And both SUMMER and SCARLET TANAGERS were heard and seen. We heard a BALTIMORE ORIOLE, but he stayed hidden in the wet, green vegetation not far from the Spillway. The group made it to the Long Bridge before the rain returned and we headed back at that point. In all, not a bad time on a gloomy day.
