An ISO image can be written to USB flash to boot, rather than writing
out to CD/DVD media
From Google search:

(have done this myself many times)

Hi Marlon -
I see you have given up installing this but the .iso in the file name would indicate that this is a CD image and needs to be burned to a CD.
Does your computer have the ability to boot from a CD to install the CD data onto the hard drive?

I recently downloaded Ubuntu-16.04.2-desktop-amd64.iso into my Downloads dir, but I'm not sure how to install it into my HP desktop system. I just got a 64 GB HP flash drive, so maybe that will help. Please advise me on this. Thank you.
