Hi Brian,

What I really wanted to do was upgrade my Linux Ubuntu 9.10 to Ubuntu 16.04.2. I have already downloaded the ISO file into my Downloads directory. What should I do next?

Cheers,

Marlon S.

An ISO image can be written to USB flash to boot, rather than writing out to CD/DVD media

Getting an ISO file onto a USB drive isn't as easy as copying the file. Here's a complete tutorial on how to burn an ISO to USB (like a flash drive).

(have done this myself many times)

Hi Marlon -

I see you have given up installing this but the .iso in the file name would indicate that this is a CD image and needs to be burned to a CD.

Does your computer have the ability to boot from a CD to install the CD data onto the hard drive?

I recently downloaded Ubuntu-16.04.2-desktop-amd64.iso into my Downloads dir, but I'm not sure how to install it into my HP desktop system. I just got a 64 GB HP flash drive, so maybe that will help. Please advise me on this. Thank you.
