It is not news to those of us in Northern Virginia that it has been very hot
the last couple of days. The 15 participants on this morning's Huntley Meadows
Monday Morning Birdwalk learned that it is much cooler at 7 in the morning, but
that it warms up quickly as the morning progresses, so that by the time we
gather at Chez Dennys for the tally, we are ready for the AC. This morning we
spotted 46 species, with the highlights being a 'flock' of Green Herons, 5
Killdeer, and the first King Birds in a long while. The Killdeer was a
reminder that ornithologicaly, Fall begins on the 1st of July, and looks
forward to shorebirds passing through soon.
