Reports from the Huntley Meadows Monday Morning Birdwalk tend to be
conservative and somewhat understated. We are a bit uncomfortable with flashy,
ostentatious and glitzy claims. Last week's sighting of a Red-necked Phalarope
left us a bit out of breath. But now, it seems we may be at it again. This
morning we spotted a hawk that looked an awful lot like a Northern Goshawk. At
first we called it a Coopers, but photographs strongly suggest a Goshawk. We
could not resolve the call, so we are sort of leaving it up to you. Many
photographs of this bird taken by Tom Miller can be found at
http://towensoutdoorsmore.shutterfly.com/. We would be interested in your ;
thoughts passed directly to me off line. Other highlights include watching a
Great Blue Heron engorge an unusally large bright golden carp, hundreds of
Red-winged Blackbirds, and a few Warblers.
