It was quite a time on the Huntley Meadows Monday Morning Birdwalk this
morning. There were 25 birders and we tallied 62 species, one of the highest
counts in several years. We had fabulous luck with warblers, shore birds, and
flycatchers. My personal thrill came when I heard three Wood Thrushes singing
through the woods, and watched one of them at a fairly close range. Those who
read these reports regularly know of my affection for this species. Warblers
were in abundance, with Prothonatary, Ovenbird, and Black-throated Greens
making particularly spectacular presences. A lone Veery joined the Thrush
count. Indigo Buntings are a favorite with the Huntley birders, and we were
serenaded by 4 of them. It was simply a great day all around!
