Today's Huntley Meadows Monday Morning Birdwalk was marked by a gray, rainy
setting, but still produced a respectable 42 species for 14 birders. Probably
the highlight was the freshly fledged Swallows of all observed species perched
on the branches of the "trees" planted in the wetland pond near the boardwalk
waiting to be fed, and the hard working parents bringing them insect treats.
Since most in our group are parents, we easily empathized with these busy
providers. We failed to hear or see the Prothonatory Warbler we have enjoyed
for the past couple of months, possibly because the brood has fledged, and
there may no longer be any reason to sing. Too bad.
