Today's Huntley Meadows Monday Morning Birdwalk attracted 17 birders. Among
those were a family with boys working on an ornithology merit badge. As we all
know, presenting veteran birders with inquiring novices can be irresistible,
and these lads came away with probably more than they ever wanted to know about
birds! Our highlights included a very fine, long view of a Blue Grossbeak, and
an in-flight skirmish between a Great Blue Heron and a Red-winged Blackburn.
The heron beat a hasty retreat.

The Monday Morning Birdwalk has been a weekly event at Huntley Meadows since
1985. It takes place every week, rain or shine, at 7AM (8AM from November
through March), is free of charge, requires no reservation, and is open to all.
Birders meet in the parking lot at the Park's entrance at 3701 Lockheed Blvd,
Alexandria, VA. Questions should be directed to Park staff during normal
