Twenty-one hardy birders assembled for this morning's Huntley Meadows Monday
Morning Birdwalk. In temperatures in the mid-30s, with bright sunshine and a
brisk breeze, we identified 41 species. Our highlights included a duck of
unknown species, which, after much photography and consultation we decided was
probably a Mallard X Black Duck hybrid; two Savannah Sparrows in a mix of
Swamp, Song, and White-Throated sparrows; and a pair of Bald Eagles. One
birder got a glimpse a warbler-like bird with a plain, yellow breast. The
sighting was too fleeting to identify, but discussion following the walk
suggests this might have been a Pine Warbler or perhaps a Palm Warbler.
