It was a very cold, breezy and bright morning that greeted the 12 durable
birders on this morning's Huntley Meadows Monday Morning Birdwalk. We were
able to spot 44 species, the highlights being, again, hundreds of ducks and
Canada Geese. The fresh ice skimming the surface of the pond provided the
setting of a whimsical picture as Geese walked along occasionally falling
through the ice. It doesn't take much to amuse cold birders.

The Monday Morning birdwalk has been a weekly event at Huntley Meadows since
1985. It takes place every week, rain or shine, at 7 AM, is free of charge,
requires no reservation, and is open to all. Note that as winter approaches,
occasional icy conditions on the trail may cause cancellation of the walk at
the last moment. Birders meet in the parking lot at the Park's entrance at
3701 Lockheed Blvd, Alexandria, VA. For questions call the Park during normal
business hours at (703) 768-2525.
