The Huntley Meadows Monday Morning Birdwalk Group spotted 60 species on this
cool, breezy, partly cloudy morning. Highlights for the 16 birders included 2
family groups each of Hooded Mergansers and Wood Ducks, an adult Bald Eagle
flying overhead with a stick in its beak, and several great warbler sightings,
and sightings/soundings of Virginia Rails and Sora. It was thought that the
twig carried by the eagle may be nesting material. Others pointed out that it
is very late in the eagle's nesting schedule, but that this may be
'maintenance' material. Either way, it heightens the optimism that eagles may
be nesting in the Park.
