There were 9 birders on this morning's Huntley Meadows Monday Morning Birdwalk.
It was a beautiful morning, with the temperatures in the 50s and 60s, no wind,
and bright skies. We tallied 41 species, with the highlights being a 6
woodpecker day which included a juvenal Red-headed Woodpecker along the
'informal trail'; and some delightful aerial acrobatics by a pair of noisy
Belted Kingfishers over the central wetland. I don't believe this display was
courtship, but rather just exuberance. I took it upon myself to arbitrarily
name these two Bill and Mary. We wish to thank birders Stuart and Pam Davis
for taking over the reporting duties last week while we were out of town.
