On the subject of chimney swifts, has anyone been to the roosting site in
Arlington, VA at S. 16th and S. Edgewood Streets this year? I stopped by at
dusk this past Sunday night and could see NO swifts at all in the area. It
seemed too early for them to have all settled into the chimney. Wondering if
they're still using that chimney.
Thanks,
Susanna

Subject: [VA-bird] Chimney Swifts
HI all,
With all of the rain in general and then all of the rain from Florence, I have
not had a chance to check on the Chimney Swifts this month at Riverheads High
School until this evening. I was not sure what to expect with the weather of
recent and a little bit of a later date to check.
The Swifts first appeared at 7:07 and the numbers steadily grew and they
started to drop into the chimney at 7:38 and finished up at about 7:50. I
guesstimated there were 1,870. Not my highest count for this location but it
was still a great show by the Swifts circling and chattering and a good number.
