As a scanner and a validator, I certainly feel more qualified
when I've scanned and read a book to write a synopsis than I do
when I validate. Maybe I am too casual about validation but I
have given up trying to read everything I validate. I check it
for rank spelling, look for valid page numbering to try to detect
missing or repititious pages, change some normal mistakes like
die to the, but seldom do I get enough out of my validation to do
a better job than someone who has actually read the book.
