Hello Moira,
The centre of the heart is certainly a great transformer. It is so because it
has infinate space to contain or carry. These types of meditations are helpful
because they actually are able to "crystalize" understanding. Meditation
essentially is about transformation. The negative is actually becoming the
positive, it is the same energy transformed. Witnessing and meditation can
also
happen without actual transformation. Transformation happens easily in the
heart. That transformation is as you say from darkness to light. The light
remains as crystal in the metphysical system. This is how a being becomes
luminous, and this is what creates the mirror or the means to be able to
reflect
darkness or harmful negativity. Rupert Sheldrake has some very interesting
insights about crystalization in morphogenic fields. He observes how
crystalization of fields are able to transfer information or consciousness
across vast distances of the world. There is indeed a much bigger picture when
it comes to aborbing or carrying each others pain or transferring information
(light or darkness) across fields.
I'm sure many of us have had many strange experiences of energies "sticking" to
us ( as Zaquie mentions.) My experience is that it is as a few have already
said
here, that where there is no light/awareness within, it can stick. I have even
witnessed the dead inside my body attatched and trying to live through me. In
these situations I acknowledge them, remind them that they are dead and I am
alive and that they must leave my house. It sounds bizarre but it is true. As
they left my body, which was lying on the bed, my body made a sudden
involuntary
almost violent jerk!
Often I notice that my hand is engaged in a movement that belongs to my mother
or my posture is morphing into that of a friend, or my toe or leg is carrying
something that is not me....etc....etc. I think we are absorbing all the time
and if no one is at home to be master of the house, it can indeed fill up with
unwanted guests. Our best practice is to be on 24 hour watch with loving
acceptance and letting go. Also the body is impermanent and is subject to all
sorts of degenerative physical influences of nature. Whilst there is certainly
some merit in understanding phychological or metaphysical causes of illness I
am
not convinced that there is always something like this contributing to it. We
are as humans subject to disease and decay. There is also the much wider
context
of past lives to consider that we may never become aware enough of to
recognise. Just destined to go with the flow and sometimes not know I guess.
Nice talking to you.
Love Sadhana

hello everyone
i've been following this thread with interest but haven't had much
time to write. i want to thank you Sadhana for your post, which is
very much in line with my own experience - i.e. "Love and awareness
are, in my experience able to carry and transform another's pain and
negativity."
I work with the tonglen practice which is a Tibetan Buddhist practice
that I learned from Pema Chodron, where you breath in the 'dark'
energy (our own or other people's) into the heart centre and
transform it and send it out as love, light, and compassion. The
practice is described in Pema's book - When Things Fall Apart. I also
know that in the Sufi tradition they have a similar approach.
Thanks to all for your thoughtful posts.
