Dear Svante, Gary, Kay, and All,
This is a deep subject and hard to encompass in short emails. I guess
I've got one more post in me on it. Here goes.

Agreed. And stated a couple of times in what I wrote as well. So
there always needs to be some profoundly open field. I don't think
the existence of narrower contexts makes that impossible. Done well,
they simply help us and students and the public discern what they are
getting in to.
Therefore I supported the initial thoughts in the Köln conference
that there should be no worldwide licensing and diplomas.
We've had a couple of discussions on the Constellation Call about the
idea that cultural aspects of the family and organizational souls on
different continents are different enough that facilitators perhaps
need to work in visibly different ways. Think of elder suicide among
the Inuit say 200 years ago. When no longer able to walk, the old one
says goodbye and quietly gives up the body. No systemic problems.
Whereas an elder suicide our world today would likely be unthinkable
and problematic. Very different field.
The thread here a while back on bowing brought one of these to light I
think. I don't see how we can use bowing in constellations in the US
the same way it is often used in Europe or Japan. It does not mean
the same things here. Anyway, the point is that these cultural
differences in the larger field alone might make it difficult to ever
reach for worldwide standards or certifications.
On the other hand, there's a critique of FCW quality in the US in the
current issue of The Knowing Field. The argument is that there's too
much interest in increasing the public understanding of FCW and
improving very small client bases, and not enough in the way of
extended trainings and supervisions and the like. I don't feel this
is quite fair, in that there has to be more interest and a larger
economic base before such things can be created--but I'll engage in
that discussion elsewhere. Perhaps the forum on the new Knowing Field
website would be a good place.
BUT--when I hear from so many people that simply watching Bert and
Sophie work in large auditoriums for a certain number of days, with
next to no individual attention, gets you an extremely prestigious
international certification--I have to wonder if that creates
quality. They certainly have the public interest and the economic
base. Are these stories then only partial truths?
However I now see tendencies from some facilitators to have a lot of
letters after their names, pretending that it is possible to contain
the diversity of the human spirit in forms controlled by them. And
yes I'm a bit allergic to authorities that seem to be self-
proclaimed, holding up all kinds of sign as proof of this authority
I hope we can recognize a difference between "controlling," and
working to promote dialogue in depth, careful distinctions, and
perhaps slow but real movement towards a broad and flexible consensus
on what we mean by various core terms and better practices.
Personally, about to turn 68, I don't necessarily expect to live to
see this, or do anything much more than suggest occasionally that it
makes sense. If we don't do this, I think we WILL see authoritarian
forms emerge eventually. This was one outcome of the session held in
San Francisco by Lisa Iverson on forming a US or North American
association--that factions would grow if consensus did not.
Hey Kay, I love your image of the roots and the flowers and the
difference in their states of being and needs. That's one to
remember. :-)
Best,
Michael
