Hi Bryan. Ah! Now that is totally fine by me. We haven't spoken much but
you are one of the most knowledgeable people I know when it comes to
hardware and software. I'd be fine paying that rate per hour if you were
the person on the other end of the line.

I was unaware that it was dd and you were the person in question.

The way he worded the original message, it sounded like some big name
national warehouse gear dealer was going to vacume out his wallet for some
tech support that may very well have turned out to be as useful as a
chocolate teapot.

But with you guys, that is certainly not the case.

Cameron.

The training would be from me. I've spent as much time and effort on Motif
accessibility and working directly with Yamaha for improvements as anyone. I
know the Motif backwards and forwards, no matter if working on it directly
or with a computer. I complete full sequences with editing, sampling,
mixing, and simple mastering directly on the Motif, and I'm very blind.

More important than the info, though, I'm good at helping people to
understand what I'm explaining. I don't teach from an outline. I teach a
subject to you, customized to your style of learning, building on what you
already know in related areas, and using analogies that help you
conceptualize the new information through ways that you've already come to
think about your existing gear and processes. I cover a lot of info quickly,
and, because of how I present it, you'll actually retain it through
understanding, rather than having just memorized steps that might not always
work. It has been a pleasure to have trained many people on this list, both
over the phone and in person. I hope that they all agree that their time
spent with me has been incredibly productive, and has saved them many hours
of frustration and experimentation when trying to understand sometimes
cryptic manuals.

$95 per hour is the rate for remote training from Dancing Dots. Remote
training from one of the screen reader companies can cost between $70 to
$100 per hour, and there are hundreds of people in the world that can teach
you how to use Window Eyes or Jaws. There is not another me to teach you the
Motif. Given that fact, we should probably be asking for more money per
hour, but we're trying to keep the training relatively affordable. Keep in
mind that any cost like this must cover the interests of several people and
agencies/government along the chain before the remains reach me, so I'm
never in danger of even starting golden pedestals, much less extending them.

By the way, Dancing Dots does provide free tech support for making sure that
purchases behave as expected. We also even provide a limited amount of free
training when someone purchases a full system including a DAW. However, we
have to charge for time that we spend with teaching someone one-on-one how
to use software and equipment. If we didn't, then I'd be on the phone all
day helping one person to learn CakeTalking or some other product from A to
Z, and would have no time for other customers, or for actually working on
new projects. This doesn't include when you call to ask a question. If
someone calls with a question about how to accomplish a certain task or use
a certain feature, I always try to give them an overview of what they need,
and a pointer to information

that they can read on their own to learn the details. If the question is
simple, I'll just help them on the spot. When they need help with a complex
subject, though, then we need to make sure that the expense of dedicating me
to their goal is covered.

Bryan

Hi. oh. Okay. That's different then.

The way you worded it before, you made it sound like you were going to pay
ninety five bucks to be connected to some guy at a call center or something.

If you are getting one on one instruction from someone who's actually using
the machine, and he can explain things from your perspective, then that is
worth the money.

Good luck,

Cameron.

Oh no I don't feel this way at all, I believe very much in the fellow that's
gonna hep me. It's just that he wants to seriously educate me, so I have to
be prepared before I take the plung. I think he went and did all the leg
work that I could possibly do with sighted help and everything and I
honestly think it'll be woth the money when I do sit down with him, with my
recording situation ready to go. This guy is blind too, so he will be coming
at it from just where I need to be. My only problem is that his memory is
much larger than mine, and he wants to bassically do an info dump lol, which
I don't think I'm quite prepared to receive till I get the recorder going. I
just wanted a little very basic instruction that says, Here Greg, when you
turn on your machine, the first thing you to to record a song is, here's the
very next thing you do after recording and saving the first track, and then
here's what how you save it and call it back up.

Hi.

Wow. Ninety five dollars an hour? Are they smoking crack? Or, do they
feel the need to add a few inches to their golden pedestal and require the
funds to complete such a project.

Most dealers at least offer a limited amount of free or reasonably priced
tech support to their customers, especially when you buy a product that
costs over a couple grand.

Ninety five dollars an hour. I'd like to see the qualifications of every
single person on their tech support team.

Sorry to rant but I hate seeing peple getting taken advantage of. Please
write me off list with the name of the company so I can be sure not to give
them any business.

Thanks,

Cameron.

Is anyone on the list currently subscribed to the motif access list. I'd
like to subscribe to that. I'm looking also to have a phone chat with
anyone who could help me get started with sequencing. The folks who sold it
to me need 95 dollars per hour for tech support, and they reccomend that I
record the session, which of course is the right idea. I'm gonna get set up
soon to do that but in the mean time I was hoping to just talk a few basics
with someone if someone might have the time.
