When you call up a VX preset, it calls up settings for an entire chain of
effects. One preset loads settings for a tube saturation effect (to simulate
some mic effects), a gate, a compressor, a de-esser, an EQ, and a doubler/delay
(maybe these are two separate effects, don't remember). Anyway, it is like
having an entire chain of effects, and being able to change all of their
settings at once.

If you want, you can always put a gate on the track, get to work with the EQ to
try to shape the tone, and add a compressor. Those will do most of the
processing, like Phil says. However, you need to tweak them all individually.
If you don't know what settings are good to use, then you're not going to get
the sort of results that you'd get from using VX presets.

The VC has some of the same processors that are in the VX. You should have the
VC, assuming that you have producer. However, the VC isn't setup to be a
dedicated vocals processor, and so there aren't a lot of presets for vocals.
You can still try it, but you'll probably need to tweak it.

Phil replied: let me try to be a bit mor helpful. You could achieve good
results in Sonar 7 by using the Track EQ and the Sonitus compressor in Sonar 7.
 Or perhaps alternatively, the V64.

Phil,

What's the nearest equivalent to VX channel Strips, in terms of simplicity and
access, in Sonar Producer 7?

It's in Sonar 8.5.

Bryan,

Not sure I've ever seen the VX Strips plug-in. Is it Sonotus? I have Sonar
Producer V 7.

Good suggestion, except he should be using the VX channel strip, not the
multiband compressor. The multiband compressor is a great tool, but it has way
too many settings for someone that doesn't know what they're doing to
affectively use it. Most of the time, also, it is overkill to use it on
anything except imported stems, sub-mixes, and the master bus.

The VX already has a mountain of presets for all sorts of vocal styles.
Plus, the other things it does (like de-essing and EQ), will probably help his
vocal sound better, also.

If you have no idea how to mix good vocals from scratch, the VX is the tool
that you should use to automatically get as far along as possible.

Kevin,

I agree that the compressor is likely going to help you the most. Just apply

the Sonotus multiband compressor to the output bus. Select from the various
presets and listen until you find one you like. I suggest setting a loop that
contains both a soft and loud passage, and keep repeating it while you change
the presets.

I don't know how to automate it. I thought I had some automation that I could
remove. but I can't find any in the event list.
There's no way I can find the exact place where the voice volume decreases and
create the kind of automation event that would directly compensate for that.
I tried Normalizing without luck. Wouldn't know how to use a compressor for

this.
Advice?
Kevin

Automation or compression?

You don't understand. The volume is not consistent through the track. I have
different volume levels through the track and I need the volume of this

vocal to stay the same. Moving the gain is not the way to go.

Guys,

I have a comp vocal track that I made from two other tracks. I did it by
choosing one track and moving the slices I needed from the other to that track.
Then I bounced the finished track to a new track. I notice that there are
some volume irregularities where the volume pulls back. I don't see any
automation that I can strip out. I tried normalizing the comp track

and didn't notice any change. What can I do in Sonar, I don't own Sound Forge,
to make the volume of this track uniform throughout?
