That's correct. Although, you will only have one input port connected to
the keyboard because, the you don't actually play any sounds from the module

Thanks Kevin. So is the following setup correct then? I would use a midi interface that has two sets of midi ins and outs, (a midiman 2x for example.) The fantom would run through one set of ins and outs, while the module would run through the other set?
Sorry about the confusion, and I appreciate the help.

Yes. What you'll do is assign the Phantom to port 1 in Soanr's MIDi devices dialog. You'll assign the other module to port 2. Those are both outputs. You'll also assign the MIDi in of the Phamtom to MIDI in 1. Now. When you want a sound from the XP whatever, you go to port 2 channel 1-16, bank whatever, patch whatever and it plays. When you want somethignf rom the phamtom you go to port 1, channel whatever, bank whatever, patch whatever and it plays. Kevin

Actually, I'll give a more detailed description of my setup, because I'm not following why you mentioned changing wires and what not. I'm running my Fantom X keyboard via USB to the comp and am using Sonar to sequence with the Fantom sounds. I just picked up a Roland XV5080 Module, and will access its sounds by midiing it through the Fantom. With this type of setup, will I still need a midi interface?

One is only a module, and needs to be accessed through the other keyboard. That's why I was wondering if I actually need an interface if I'm using the keyboard with the comp, and just accessing the module
through the keyboard.

May be best to get a MIDI interface as you can then have both keyboards connected to the PC at the same time, and you won't have to unplug and replug anything. Pre-amps are hardware. You would usually
plug microphones into them and obviously, can be used ether with PC's or, Mac's.

Hello All:
I have a question about a setup, and another one about recording.
1. I'm using a Roland Fantom X keyboard via USB with Sonar. I just
picked up a roland xv5080 module and want to access and play its sounds through my Fantom. Can I still keep the Fantom connected to the
comp via USB and access the xv5080's sounds through Sonar if i have it
running via midi through the Fantom, or am I going to have to buy a midi interface and run both devices through that?
2. Often times, I hear people who use a Mac to record their stuff say that they run their material through a pre amp to get the material
sounding fatter, (especially the kick.) Are pre amps also accessible for pc users, or do we have something similar and comporable?
Thanks for all help.
