Hey now that's a fundamental change! First let's (not), discuss the epic
trigger-happy "windows versus apple OS" then move on to jaws/window
eyes/NVDA... versus apple voiceover. Hmmm, the more i think about this, i
feel bad for apple; it's always apple versus the world (or so it seems).
I've Used voiceover a few times, in the context of the apple OS, it runs
great and smooth. That's probably due to things that the OS does differently
though, and maybe even that apple has deep links between the 2. It's like
the strange rare situation, where narrator (yes I said narrator, that weird
rapsi voiced thing in xp, and the more suitable yet still annoying feemale
robot on vista/7 OS), reads a screen and gives you info that jaws doesn't or
has access to some part of the screen that jaws doesn't. And it's also what
microsoft is doing now in windows8, since narrator is getting an extreme
makeover (i hope)!
So, back to CT and jaws, since that's what this list is about..

Regards, D!J!X!

So now that we've compared different versions of jaws, is apple's voiceover
any better for us?

Jaws 11 64 runs good, 12 is ok, 13 definitely sucks. Windows7 and jaws 11
work somewhat good, there's honestly no better improvements on jaws 12, it
now seems that all the fixes and upgrades are made to that lookup source
crap or some other remote feature. I haven't seen a good update to jaws in
a while; no adding of new scripts to support or improve on applications
other than office and the occasional bugs). But a real update with some
actual new features that work and stuff would be a plus. The OCR feature is
OK IMO, but you lose out, cuz it does run slower at times, laggs for no
reason in others. I've seen this behaviour on both 32 and 64bit platforms.
JAWS 11 isn't bug free either, neither is 12, and even in all fairness
sometimes jaws has to do work arounds and who know what background/under the
hood things to work with some of windows more complicated UI stuff and such
things, but still unexceptable for a almost thousand dollar piece of
software!
That's like buying an RME interface to find that it's performing crappy;
people will pay big bucks, but they'll also expect big things!
But I can recommend jaws11 for windows 7, it works well enough, depending on
what you'll be using windows for. Jaws10 is a definite no-no. You could
always switch between jaws11 and 13 if need be, I personally kep a demo of
it (can't justify upgrading SMA), but i have it to run whenever i need
something scanned, however i haven't had much luck with that...

Along this line is anyone using jaws 13 with windows 7 ultimate 64 bit?
That's what I'm using and am not sure if I like the way jaws is running.
Thanks

JAWS 13 itself does not run as well as did JAWS 11 in my opinion, regardless
of the operating system. So it's better the devil you know than the angel
you don't. Go ahead and use JAWS 13 with Windows 7 as you will benefit from
future upgrades.

Hello,

Just curious, I just bought a machine with Windows 7, (my first upgrade
since xp,) and wanted to know whether users here find that Jaws 13 runs
better with w7 or wxp?

Thanks.
