My nemeth reference says the you do indeed use 2 subtraction symbols, but
separated by a dot 5. In print, this is usually done by putting parentheses
around the negative number. In braille, I'll quote:

"Occasionally, 2 of these signs may be placed sequentially as in plus
plus, plus minus, minus plus, or minus minus. In those cases, the first sign
is often a sign of operation, add or subtract, and the second is used to
indicate a directed numeral, positive or negative. When this occurs,
separate the 2 braille symbols by inserting a dot 5 between them. This
indicates that the second sign is part of a signed numeral. The number or
symbol after the second sign does not require a numeric indicator."

So 7- -1 should be brailled as (number sign) 7 (minus sign)(dot 5)(minus
sign) 1

Subject: [duxuser] nemeth question

I'm away from my nemeth references and can't remember the correct way to
braille this.
7 - -1 =
seven minus negative one equals.

Do I use two subtraction symbols?
