Ever since its earliest incarnations, the Duxbury Translation software has
had this one bug. There is no way that I know of for users to define
permanently what characters are represented by what dots. This means that
everyone's translation software is going to be out of synchronization with
the new BANA code including MegaDots in all its versions, DBT DOS, DBT MAC
and whatever other DBT's are still lerking about.
Then we come to the braille readers. I would most humbly suggest that
transcribers add a Special Symbols page to documents which contain the
code changes, explaining what the changes are and the new dot patterns.
Lastly, could somebody give me the direct links to the most recent code
changes both literary and textbook? Thank you! Also where can I lobby for
the elimination of the "ea" contraction in literary braille? This
contraction is difficult to read and leads to endless pronunciation
inconsistencies. "seat" versus "Seattle" "beam" versus the name "Leam" and
we won't even discuss the poor Greek myth character whose name is
Meleager, except that when you read it with an "ea" sign it reads like
"league".
