Do you know the purpose of that log in panel coming up? Everything stops
talking when it pops up so in the middle of a long document or Email…annoying
for sure.

Yeah it's annoying but there's no way to disable that. A work around is to go
into energy saver in system preferences and set your display to sleep after
10 or 20 minutes.
