As it happens Eset Cyber Security was covering up system windows and I found
this out by reconfiguring the Eset Interface, now nothing shows on the screen
at all apart from critical notifications which is exactly what I need, I can
now access system windows using the methods suggested so thanks everyone for
your help.

How can this be done?
Every so often I see a window asking me to enter a secure password for my
backup drive.
When I try to locate the window it disappears so I can’t paste the password
in.
Thanks
