thanks Dane for letting us know what the problem was. Often we don’t find out
the cause so when it happens to us we have to ask the question again.

As it happens Eset Cyber Security was covering up system windows and I found
this out by reconfiguring the Eset Interface, now nothing shows on the screen
at all apart from critical notifications which is exactly what I need, I can
now access system windows using the methods suggested so thanks everyone for
