I would recommend her to power off the pad wait 30 seconds and turn it back on.
Sometimes especially when new updates come out,ios devices sometimes need to be
turned off and then back on again to fix issues.

a message field, it just says an F button and an okay button. It never used to
do that. Would resetting the keyboard work?

its at the bottom past all the letters she would find delete,shift,and then
numbers she has to tap on it for numbers to appear on her pad
