I still have a fondness for my Artic speech.
I miss my computer booting up and saying:
Artic Speech is ready.
In some ways, eSpeak reminds me of Artic speech, but I can listen to the
Artic for extended times, but the eSpeak voice tires me out.
But I'm happy to have it if that is all there is, that is for sure.

Hmm, sounded like music playing out of a Pringles can.
Not familiar with how espeak sounds, but I started by listening to an
Echo II, got through college listening to a ProVert speech synth, then
went to a DecExpress on one machine and a MiniTransport on another. I
actually preferred the MiniTransport due to the responsiveness. I use
Eloquence now, and it sounds, to me, much like the other three, but when
you listen to a synth for 10 hours a day, they all start to sound human
to you. Although, I would never read a book using synthetic speech. Just
kills it for me.
I am no speed typist, but I use echo words not characters, and I have
things set to not interrupt words. So typing responsiveness has never
been a real issue for me.
I'm a huge skeptic, so don't fully believe the floppy drive music thing.
Oh, btw, did I mention that my Pi showed up in the mail last week? I was
quite surprised as I wasn't expecting it until April or May. Tiny little
thing. I've been on call for work so haven't had a chance to do anything
more than open the package and look at it.
