I've had several stock C64 PSUs die on me over the years.  For our club
(Vic64) in Victoria BC, I'm the "hardware guy" and I've come across several
broken PSUs from other members, as well as fixed a number of C64s that were
damaged due to bad PSUs.

I've built 5 or 6 replacement PSUs so far out of "wall wart" PSUs.  I'm not
really in it for the business of shipping them out to people, but I'm happy
to tell you exactly the parts I use. One of the PSUs I made has been
running the Centronian BBS C64 for about a year and a half straight with no
problems.

For making a new C64 PSU you'll need at least a 5V 3A DC supply and a 9V 1A
AC supply. For the 5V DC I use a Circuit-Test RPR-053A0-P5 supply, and for
the 9V AC supply I use a Mode Electronics 68-901A-1 supply. I've attached
pics of both so you can see. On the bottom of the C64 stock supply is a
diagram showing how the pins of the cable need to be connected. I usually
just cut the cable off the bad supply and wire it directly to the new
supplies. It usually only takes 15 mins or so.

Adam: A few people in Toronto did do a group buy on Sav64s a while
back to save on shipping, maybe more people are interested?

I've heard good things about the Ray Carlsen PSU, but don't have one.
 (I personally use a C128 power supply with an adaptor box I built way
back to work with the 64.)

Does anyone know of a Canadian-friendly manufacturer who produces new
PSUs
for the C64 or at the very least a "power saver"?  I know Ray Carlssn in
the
States gets excellent reviews but with the crappy dollar, shipping costs,
and customs fees, I was hoping there was somebody analogous here in the
Great White North.
