To have rare birds sent to you by email daily by eBird:
1. Sign into eBird. (If you have not already created an account, you will need
to do this. Takes 1 minute.)
2. Hit the “Explore Data” tab.
3. Down on the right side of the page - see “Alerts” - click on that
4. Now you’re on the “Manage My Alerts” page. You have options.
5. Want to know what’s rare in Virginia? Then, under where it says “Rare Bird
Alerts” enter “Virginia” - click on “Virginia, United States (US)” when that
pops up.
6. Want the info by email? Then hit “subscribe”
You’re now all signed up.
You can easily unsubscribe from the same page at any time.
Just want it for a county? Same process, just put in the county name.
Have “needed” birds for a state or county? Do the same thing under the “Needs
Alerts” section of that page.
If any one needs help getting started with eBird, I would be glad to help you.
I have been contributing data to eBird for 10 years. Scientists need data to
inform public policies and conservation efforts that help birds. All data is
useful — whether from your backyard or some fantastic birding spot. If you
love birds, please eBird.
Please participate in the Cornell Lab of Ornithology’s Global Big Day on
